Ready to Hire an Engineer? Start Here

Before you open a search, five things need to be true. Skipping any of them is the most common reason a search drags on for months.

The readiness checklist

The role's first-six-months scope is written down, not just a title. What will this person actually own?

A comp range is approved internally before the JD goes out, not decided mid-search when an offer is on the table.

The interview loop is defined, with a clear owner for each stage, before the first candidate is scheduled.

Someone senior enough can make the final call without a multi-week internal approval chain that costs you the candidate.

You know your walk-away point on comp and start date before you're negotiating against a strong candidate's other offer.

Why this matters more than sourcing

Most delays in engineering hiring aren't a sourcing problem, they're a readiness problem. A slow internal approval process or an undefined interview loop will lose a strong candidate faster than a thin pipeline ever will.

The best candidates have other offers. If your process isn't ready before the search starts, you'll lose them to the company whose process was.
