Can they map a buyer journey, define an ICP, design a pipeline stage, and reason about revenue attribution.

Fluent in prompt engineering and AI-powered process automation, not just traditional Zapier-style workflows.
Can name systems they've actually shipped end to end, not just tools they're familiar with.
Not describe tools they know. A real GTM Engineer can tell you the specific data source, the transformation logic, and the business outcome. A resume-fluent candidate stays vague on the middle step.
Have them write a SQL query or walk through an API integration live, don't take "I know SQL" at face value. This is the single fastest way to separate builders from talkers.
